SYNERGY 7 ( Formerly AromaTab) – Background Briefing
Why this novel tablet?
Antibiotics: require a prescription, do not address most viral infections, resistant bacterial strains are increasing, reduction of protective mucus membrane bacteria especially in the gut can create additional problems like leaky gut, and potential allergic reactions. Some patients knowledgeable about this wanted a good alternative.
As an integrative family physician, I developed a formula using seven essential oils and my wife and I made capsules by hand in the evenings for patients to use. Though tedious, the results were very good.
In 2008 a research pharmacist told me about a new process he had developed whereby medical oils could be made into a tablet. Intrigued, I gave him some of the formula to experiment with and the essential oil formula became a tablet that we named AromaTab. Initial results in my practice were excellent. Patient acceptance was good, and the results were on par with the capsules.
An open clinical trial from February 2008 through July 2009 was undertaken in my practice for those patients who declined antibiotic therapy but would agree to a trial of the experimental essential oil tablet AromaTab along with detailed written information on safety and use. As the immune system is responsible for fighting infections, AromaTab was added for strong immune support.
Results of the 18-month clinical trial of 612 patients, 561 (91.6%) showed improvement or their symptoms resolved completely. Side effects of GI upset in 16 patients (2.6%) was the main side effect noted. In 14 patients (2.2%), the addition of a prescription antibiotic was necessary to get a full resolution of symptoms. Patient age range was 5 years to 84 years. Dosages ranged from 2 to 4 tablets twice a day for adults and children took ½ tablet to 1 tablet twice a day. The duration was 5 to 7 days.
As this tablet was made by a compounding pharmacy, it required a prescription for use. The cost was somewhat prohibitive. Nevertheless, thousands of patients have benefited since 2008. However, the pharmacy, under increasing federal regulations, decided to stop the production of AromaTab as of July 2024.
During the summer we secured the services of a GMP dietary supplement manufacturer capable of making this product to the same parameters as the original AromaTab. It is reborn now as SYNERGY 7. The cost from the pharmacy was $115 for 120 tablets. It is now happily priced at $49.95 from Julia Rose Botanicals.
